Living in Abundance

For three weeks we're going to look at all that we have in our relationship with God, with each other and in the world. As we do that we'll also consider how to best share this grace with our church family and with our neighbors both near and far.

God's New Society

Over the next couple of months, as we progress through the summer, and watch as life matures, we're going to study together what God's desire is for our church, through a series of Sunday messages focused on the book of Ephesians. Author, teacher and speaker, John Stott (among others) considered this letter from Paul as revealing the newsociety God was creating in and through the church of Jesus. We're going to hold up and consider that idea of "God's New Society" for ourselves and we'll be using Stott's commentary on Ephesians as a guiding tool. If you want to read his ideas as we move along you may be able to find it under that title or under the title "The Message of Ephesians."

In this book, Paul writes to a community of faith about how God has worked in Jesus and then continues towork in the Body of Christ, the church community. He's talking about the continuing work of the Holy Spirit in theworld then and now. He does more than say this is true. He develops the idea into a fleshed out design that incorporates community activities, personal relationships and spiritual direction and encouragement.

As a church we are heading toward a better understanding of God's call to the church of Jesus in general, so we can better understand the kind of ministry or ministries he is calling FPC to develop. This study and precipitated discussions will be important for all of us who call this place home.
