Coming Soon! Pentecost &
Arts Appreciation Sunday
This year's Art Appreciation Sunday falls on a day equal in
magnitude to Christmas and Easter - the Day of Pentecost - the
birthday of the church. This is the day Jesus foretold before he
died: "If I do not go, the Advocate will not come to you.But if I go
away, then I will send him to you." (John 16:7).The Holy Spirit
makes known to us the person of Jesus Christ, reveals God's
truth, empowers, leads, teaches, intercedes, counsels,
comforts, and collaborates with us to fulfill God's purposes for
us. The church simply wouldn't exist without the power of the
Holy Spirit. but what does it mean individually to have such a
Holy Advocate?.
Have you ever invited the Holy Spirit to create with you , to allow the Holy Spirit freedom to partner with you creatively by acknowledging your God-given imagination and dedicating it to Him? Don't be afraid to start small. Not every work of art has to be the equivalent to the Sistine Chapel to be important. Don't judge the outcome. Just as it took you years of trial and error to learn to read or write, so it takes practice to partner with the Holy Spirit in new creativ eways.
This year we welcome art of any variety and style from every age.
We especially want to encourage children to contribute! But we
also want to invite adult and child artists, in light of this special
day in the church calendar, to create something new to highlight
the Day of Pentecost.
We encourage you to prayerfully create! Let's see what God births among us!
Healing Ministry Workshop
The Body at Prayer in the Journey to Wholeness
Presented by Dr. Laura Zane Kolmar Shining Light Ministry
The life of faith is a journey toward wholeness of body, mind and spirit. Often our
focus on the physical aspect of our journey is defined by traditional approaches to health (and illness). The body may be neglected in our understanding of its role in spiritual wholeness. This can prevent us from more fully enjoying and celebrating our wholeness
and holiness. We will explore simple ways to enhance our ability to discern and respond
to God's invitation to relationship and God's desire to be present in our everyday lives.
The presentation will include guided meditation for healing and other forms of prayer and
spiritual "exercises" for body, mind and spirit that will enhance your ability to appreciate
the powerful gift of healing central to our faith!
Dr. Laura Zane Kolmar, (DMin), holds a B.A. in Religion from Colgate University, a
Master of Divinity from Yale University Divinity School and a Doctor of Ministry from
Drew University Theological School. She has a diverse background which includes
parish social ministry, workshop and retreat leadership, and pastoral care and
counseling.
